Description:
FUREVER HOME NEEDED!!
Bandit is wonderful older Cocker who came to us from the York County SPCA. When he arrived at the shelter, he had to be shaved down to get rid of the 5-inch mats covering his body. The poor boy was so matted that he was covered with fleas, dirt, sticks, and even blood from all the fleas’ fecal matter. His ears, eyes, and teeth needed attention as all were dirty and infected. He also has dry eye, which is easily treated with inexpensive eye drops or ointment. Dry eye is fairly common in Cockers who have suffered from neglect. It is a condition brought about by malfunctioning tear ducts. With no moisture, the eyes can’t get rid of the dirt, dust and bacteria that float in the air, so they quickly become infected. This in turn causes the green pus often seen in dogs with severe cases of dry eye. Dry eye management is easy and when performed daily, the treatment helps keep the dog from developing cataracts or glaucoma. Most dogs who have been getting eye drops regularly easily accept their drops, so don’t be afraid that it’s a hassle. This writer finds it a nice excuse to pay extra special attention to her own blind dog and uses the opportunity to check all over the dog’s business for anything out of the ordinary!
Bandit is wary with new humans at first, but once he warms up (which is fairly quickly), he attaches himself to whichever human is showing him attention or affection. For example, after figuring out that his transporter was good people, he was friendly, calm, cuddly, and affectionate. Bandit has probably not known much human kindness; he is gentle and needy, timid and submissive when you first meet him. But once he gets to know you and with a bit of love and care, he will be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a dog that will settle in quickly and already be trained to do everything he is supposed to do.
Please give him a chance--older dogs are truly wonderful. They are well trained, mellow, and quite content to lie next to you on the couch, returning whatever love you give them tenfold. For information on the benefits of adopting older dogs, please click here.
Our adoption process begins with an application. If you are interested in adopting this or any of the other dogs on our website, please take a few moments to fill out the application now. We have a busy website, so one of the dogs you may be interested in now could already have an application pending approval. Don’t be left out in the cold – fill out an application now, and you can be pre-approved for the next “perfect” dog you see available. (Of course, we think ALL of our dogs are perfect, but we understand that adopters may have certain parameters based on their own circumstances, ie, kids, other dogs, cats, work schedule, etc.) The pre-approval process is the same as the adoption process, but with the benefit of being ready to go when your dog comes in. Often a dog won’t even make it to the website if we know we already have someone waiting in the wings who we know would be a perfect match for Fido. How simple is that for finding your new BFF (Best Furry Friend)??!!
The medical and custodial expenses of the numerous Cocker Spaniels in our care are tremendous. With the current economy, more and more dogs with urgent and serious medical issues are being abandoned. While we are committed to providing the best possible care for these luckless, voiceless dogs, the increased costs are beginning to take their toll on our ability to do so. What this means is that we are able to rescue fewer dogs, and in turn that means more dogs may be euthanized every day. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our dogs, please consider making a donation.
We know that money is tight everywhere, but even just a few dollars from many people adds up. Think of those dogs still in shelters or on the streets – those without warm beds, full bellies, and the knowledge that they are safe. For just the cost of a few cups of coffee, you can make a tremendous in the life of one of our needy furballs. For other ways to donate, please scroll to the bottom of our main web page.
The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization and your donations are entirely tax deductible.
